Research Background and Interests:  My background and interests are at the intersection of the Philosophy of Mind, Cognitive Psychology, and Artificial Intelligence.  My work centers at the topic of intentionality/aboutness/meaningfulness --mental representations seem to be about things in a way that non-mental things are not; what gives mental phenomena this characteristic property?  I focus on the role of perceptual experiences in making conceptual thoughts meaningful. My method for developing a theory is to work with computer scientists to try to build a machine that has meaningful thoughts.
